DM's Update #18
This DM's Update is no longer relevant to our campaign as days later we decided to change our group's structure dramatically. I'm leaving this here however for reference.
After some soul searching and character killing, I believe we need to take a look at how we run our sessions. It's the hope that while some ideas here will be difficult for some players, all the ideas will add up to an overall higher enjoyment of everyone.
I. The DM Contract
The Dungeon Master is trying his best (he is mortal after all) to tell you a story, are you helping or hindering him by your character's choices? What playing style do you enjoy most and is it conducive to a shared experience?

II. In-Character vs. Shared Story
We're aiming for collective fun over personal fun, if you're not actively working on helping the 'shared story telling experience,' consider watching this.
III. Be Prepared
There's more you can do (and is required!) to prepare for a game than just bringing your character sheet.
IV. The Travel Montage
Up to this point much of our campaign has been about pressure, with little use for long-term pacing techniques. This looks to change and with it an understanding of how much detail is important.
V. Closing the Open-World
The game will now take a more linear approach with 'narrative signs' to aid the players in what to do. Previously it was a 'Persistent World Sandbox' and now will be a 'Set Piece Sandbox.'
