IV. Fire and Shadow

The Star-Iron door did not simply open—it disintegrated. The pressure from within became a vacuum, pulling at Elara’s lungs as a tide of absolute darkness surged forward. It wasn't smoke, and it wasn't shadow; it was a living void, a predatory absence of light that hungered to unmake everything it touched. It crawled across the floor, turning the stone to ash in its wake.

Vaelor did not retreat. He stepped forward, his massive chest expanding until his scales seemed ready to burst. He unleashed a torrent of dragonfire—not the orange flame of a campfire, but a concentrated beam of white-violet heat that tore through the darkness like a physical wedge. The collision sent a shockwave through the cavern, shattering the obsidian pillars into a million shards of glass.

“Now, Little Spark! The heart of the storm is exposed!”

Elara didn't hesitate. She threw herself into the inferno, the heat of Vaelor’s fire singing her cloak as she sprinted toward the center of the void. There, at the core of the darkness, was a pulsing, amorphous shape—the 'un-soul' of a forgotten god. She raised her sword, the runes on the blade screaming in protest as they touched the anti-light.

Steel met shadow. The impact felt like hitting a wall of frozen iron. Elara felt her arm go numb, but she poured every ounce of her will into the strike. “For the sun!” she cried, a mantra of a world she might never see again.

Light erupted. It was a silent, blinding explosion that turned the entire cavern into a world of pure white. The darkness didn't just retreat; it shriveled, its essence evaporating under the combined fury of dragon-fire and human-will. The scream it let out was not heard by the ears, but felt in the soul—a long, agonizing descent into nothingness.
